Pearls are well known for being the birthstone for the month of June, but they are also attached to so much history and tradition. Pearls are traditionally worn by brides on their special day. It has been said that they bring marital bliss and prevent the bride from crying on her wedding day. Pearls were first traded more than 5000 years ago and were recognised by the Ancient Romans as a definitive sign of wealth and social status. 1

Step One

Cut approx. 30cms of stretchy elastic and work it by stretching it out a few times. Thread on 20 to 21 pearls (this should allow you to make two bracelets from the strand).

2

Step Two

Tie a basic overhand knot - one end over the other and back through the loop pulling the pearls together.

3

Step Three

Keeping the tension taught, tie an overhand knot again passing one end through the loop twice and pull tight bringing the bracelet together.

4

Step Four

Pull the pearls each side of the knot slightly apart checking that the elastic does not slip undone, dap a little clear nail varnish to secure the knot.

5

Step Five

Let the nail varnish dry completely then carefully trim off the excess elastic close to the knot using scissors
