The start of a brand-new year is always the perfect time to try something new. New trend, new medium, new technique. Challenge yourself with this weeks Hints and tips tutorial as it combines the use of two mediums to create fabulous statement earrings. You will need one strand of your desired pear-shaped gemstones, for this tutorial Citrine has been used with tassels to accompany. In this design a complimentary and opposing colour has been used to create a pop of colour and add some depth to the earrings. Step One

Take 1 length of the wire and tread on 5 of the citrine drops, try to sort the drops into two sets of five similar sized drops.

Step Two

With the drops in the center of the wire bring the drops into a circle form, cross the wires over and start to weave over and under each drop. Weave until there is a 4cm tail of wire. Do the same with the other wire going in the opposite direction leaving the same length tail finishing at the same point.

Step Three

Twist the wires together then form a wrapped loop. Trim the excess wire

Step Four

Take the other length of wire and thread on a orange tassel, wrap one end of the wire around the top loop 3 times.

Step Five

Thread on a yellow tassel, bring it up to the orange tassel and wrap the wire around the top loop 3 times.

Step Six

Thread on a orange tassel, bring it up to the other two and wrap the wire around the top loop 3 times. Neatly trim the end of the wire.

Step Seven

With the other wire, bring it around the 1st tassel and thread through the center tassel loop, bend the wire upwards and thread on 4 x 3mm spacer beads.

Step Eight

Neatly wrap the wire around the bottom section of the gem flower then trim the excess wire.

Step Nine

Open the small loop on the shepherd hook earing wire and add on the gem stone earing and close. Repeat to make the other earing.
