Create a Gemstone Chandelier

Learn how to make a gemstone chandelier.

Chandeliers are associated with glamour and prestige and the word originates with the French word ‘chandelle’, meaning candle holder as this was the idea surrounding the light hanging. Step One

Start by cutting all the existing elements from the chandelier so you just have the frame.

Step Two

Thread one clear quartz faceted oval onto a feather head pin, bend wire over to form a right angle place the end of your round nose pliers on the head pin slightly above the oval, bend the wire over the top prong of the pliers then wrap around twice in between the pliers and the gemstone to form a wrapped loop. Trim the excess wire. Repeat this to make 10. Set aside for assembly later.

Step Three

Thread on to an eye pin, 1 x 11mm black agate round, 1 x 4mm black agate round, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round and 1 x 4mm black agate round. Bend the end of the eye pin over to a right angle, using your round nose pliers roll the wire over to form a loop. Repeat this to make 10. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Four

Thread onto an eye pin 1 x 8mm clear quartz round, 1 x clear quartz rice bead, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round. Form a loop at the end as in step 2. trim the tail if a bit too long before making the loop. repeat this to make 10. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Five

Thread onto an eye pin 3 x 8mm clear quartz rounds and 1 x 4mm black agate round. Form a loop at the end as in step 2. repeat this to make 20. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Six

Thread on to a head pin, 1 x 4mm black agate round,1 x 13mm black agate round, 1 x 4mm black agate round, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round. 1 x 4mm black agate round, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round. Form a loop at the end as in step 2. repeat to make 10. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Seven

Thread on to an eye pin, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round, 1 x 11mm black agate round, 1 x 8mm clear quartz round. Form a loop as in step 2, repeat to make 10. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Eight

Thread on to an eye pin, 2 x 4mm black agate rounds, 1 x clear quartz rice bead, 2 x black agate round. Form a loop as in step 2. repeat to make 10. Set aside for later assembly.

Step Nine

To assemble the outer strands take 1 of step 5, with the black agate at the top, attach 1 of step 4 to the bottom loop, then 1 of step 3 to the bottom loop with the black agate at the bottom, then attach 1 of the step 2 faceted ovals to complete the strand. Repeat to make 10 strands.

Step Ten

To assemble the inner strands take 1 of step 5, with the black agate at the top, attach 1 of step 8 to the bottom loop, then 1 of step 7 to the bottom loop, then 1 of step 6 to the bottom loop. Repeat to make 10 strands.

Step Eleven

Using the 7mm jump rings attach the 10 inner strands first to the chandelier, and then the 10 outer strands.
