Step One

Find a round object to wrap the wire around. You can use bottles, small glass, rolling pin etc. Use a mandrel, the size you want your frame to be ours is approx 5½cms in diameter. Cut a length of 1.0mm wire approx 30cm's long and wrap the wire around the mandrel so the ends criss cross creating a circle. Using flat nose pliers bend one end to a 45 degree angle. This end will be used to create a loop to hang from a chain, ribbon or cord.

Step Two

Holding the wire securely around the mandrel wrap the other end of the wire around the bail wire two or three times and snip away the excess.

Step Three

Using 0.4mm wire cut multiple lengths (how many will depend on how thick you want the trunk of your tree to be) we used 22 wires measuring 25cm's each. Hold all the wires together at the centre and twist them together to create the trunk of the tree you can let it bend and kink for a organic natural look. Separate the wires at the root end of the tree into 2 or 3 groups and do the same for the branches into 5 groups. Hold the tree up to the frame while working to make sure it will fit inside and there is room to add gemstone chips.

Step Four

Starting with the roots wrap the ends around the frame working from the centre out. Leave trimming the ends until last as some of them will be used to wrap around the main frame filling it in.

Step Five

Separate the branch wires and add gemstone chips until they meet the main frame, wrap the ends around 2 or 3 time to secure repeat this with all the branch wires. When you complete adding chips you can use any ends of wires to fill in any gaps on the main frame before trimming off.

Step Six

Use round nose pliers to make a wrapped loop for adding a chain or cord.
