Learn how to make an Emerald Headdress with JewelleryMaker.
Follow this step-by-step tutorial along with the related images to lead you into creating a show stopping Headdress, that will have everyone astounded when they see it! The Emerald gemstone is May’s birthstone and is associated with the astrological sign of Taurus. It’s believed that the gemstone brings wisdom, true friendship and foresight in to the future. Being one of Cleopatra’s favourite gemstones, this fashion forward piece of jewellery ties in to the Grecian theme very well. Step One
Cut a piece of chain that fits around your head so that it is taught across your forehead and temples, then join together in a loop with the jumpring. This will be the front of the design.
Step Two
Find the centre of that piece of chain and cut through the middle link, add a jumpring to one end and two to the other end, then join the two ends together.
Step Three
Cut another piece of chain that fits over the top of your head from front to back, and attach it to the jumpring at the front and the central jumpring at the back. (Try this on your head to make sure it fits comfortably).
Step Four
Take another long piece of chain and attach it to the front jumpring, and taking another jumpring hook the 27th link of the new chain to the 23rd link along the headdress (or roughly so it hangs down in front of your temple). Cut the chain so that the end hangs approximately 3 inches above your collarbone, and repeat this on the other side of the headdress.
Step Seven
Take a featherweight headpin, add one small gold spacer, a large gold spacer and an Emerald Rondelle and using round nose pliers make a wrapped loop to secure it to one of the other loops on the five loop connector. Repeat this three more times until all of the loops have a dangle attached.
Step Eight
Add a small spacer to a featherweight headpin and make a wrapped loop securing it to the loop in the middle of the connector.
Step Eleven
Take a featherweight headpin, add on a small gold spacer bead, an Emerald rondelle and another small gold spacer bead. Then using round nose pliers make a wrapped loop to secure it to the third link along from the centre of the draped chain at the front of the headdress. Repeat this a further seven times adding the wrapped loops to every third link along, then do the same on the other side to mirror them.
Step Twelve
Take a featherweight headpin, add on a small gold spacer, a large gold spacer, an Emerald nugget, a large gold spacer and another small gold spacer, then using round nose pliers make a wrapped loop to secure it to the jumpring at the side/temple. Repeat this as many times as required and secure them evenly spaced all the way around the sides and back of the head dress until you reach the final one on the jumpring on the opposite side/Temple.
