Here at JewelleryMaker we are reminiscing over our favourite classic movies! We are taking inspiration from the films that everyone loves and translating it into amazing jewellery designs. This week’s Hints and Tips tutorial is inspired by the epic movie Cleopatra. Created in 1963, Cleopatra can only be associated with glorious, bold Egyptian attire, fit for the queen that she was. We have taken the classic, royal embellished tassel vibes and added a modern twist with a cool earthy colour palette. By using a combination of 4 different beautiful gemstones, beads and tassels this piece is sure to be a head turning statement accessory perfect for any special occasion. Step One

Start by making the top layer of the necklace: Cut a 70cm length of beading thread, thread on a crimp bead and a 4mm jump ring, pass thread back through the crimp bead. Pull to form a small loop and crimp. Trim the excess thread and add a crimp cover.

Step Two

Using a silver spacer bead in between every gem, thread on 8 hexagonal lapis lazuli gems.

Step Three

Take the strand of green coated marquise cut pyrites, separate out the largest center gem and the four biggest either side, keep them in their graduated sizes.

Step Four

Again, using a spacer bead in between each gem thread on the smallest pyrite, then another 2 hexagons, next size pyrite, 2 hexagons, next size pyrite, 2 hexagons, next size pyrite 2 hexagons then the largest center pyrite.

Step Five

Repeat steps 4 and 2 in reverse to create the other side of the top layer of the necklace. Thread on a crimp bead and a 4mm jump ring, pass the thread back through the crimp bead, pull to form a small loop and crimp. Trim the excess thread and add a crimp cover. Set aside until the bottom layer is made.

Step Six

To create the bottom layer of the necklace, cut a 70cm length of beading thread, thread on a crimp bead and a 4mm jump ring, pass the thread back through the crimp bead, pull to form a small loop and crimp. Trim the excess thread and add a crimp cover.

Step Seven

Thread on 11 haematites with a quartzite in between each one.

Step Eight

Take the abalone strand and take off the 2 smallest bars from either end. Keep the graduation ready for threading in order. Thread on the following sequence; 1 quartzite, 1 royal blue tassel, 1 quartzite. 1 haematite, smalest abalone bar, 1 haematite. 1 quartzite, 1 turquoise tassel, 1 quartzite. 1 haematite, the next size up abalone bar, 1 haematite. 1 quartzite, 1 aqua tassel, 1 quartzite. 1 haematite, next size up abalone bar, 1 haematite. 1 quartzite 1 pale green tassel, 1 quartzite. 1 heamatite, next size up abalone bar, 1 haematite. 1 quartzite, 1 royal blue tassel, 1 quartzite. 1 haematite, the largest abalone bar, 1 haematite.

Step Nine

Repeat the threading sequences in steps 9 and 8 in reverse to create the other side of the bottom layer.

Step Ten

Thread on a crimp bead and a 4mm jump ring, pass the thread back through the crimp bead, pull to form a small loop and crimp. Trim the excess thread and add a crimp cover.

Step Eleven

Open 1 large 7mm jump ring and put on the small jump ring at the end of the bottom layer, then from the top layer, the bar of the toggle clasp then close. Do the same at the other end of the layers keeping the same order to enable the necklace to sit properly.
